“A Kiss Out of Time,” the first title in an anticipated young adult trilogy, follows teenager Georgina Claythorne, as she spends the final weeks of summer helping her injured grandmother run an antique shop at the Jersey shore. When Georgina touches a hundred year old portrait in the attic of the shop “the air chilled and a feather light touch brushed the nape of her neck,” as the ghost of Eric first manifested. Georgina and her grandmother share a gift, the ability to access the paranormal, but neither are prepared for the upheaval the ghost of Eric manifests in Georgina’s life. Eric’s insistence on his love for her while misidentifying her as Mary unnerves and frightens Georgina, unleashing her quest, which becomes the readers quest, to learn the identity of the handsome young man in the portrait. Looking for a confidante as she confronts subsequent paranormal incidents, Georgina turns to her very human friend Jake. Unraveling the intrigue, mystery, romance, and glimpses of a hidden reality keep the reader turning the pages. The surprise ending, which has its roots in the Civil War, offers a window into the past and a rationale for the tenacity of the dead in postponing their crossing over.
